Why Detroit Sucks

I heard this on the radio while driving in to work yesterday morning:

The DJs had many snarky comments about both the council members, quipping that the meeting ended with Jerry Springer coming in and making them take a paternity test. *lol* (I'm not sure who the man was, but the woman was Monica Conyers, wife of US Representative John Conyers.) Anyway, when the council members of a major city are so unprofessional, it's not surprising that the city is a disaster.

I've finished watching

d_84's and

cjmr's Doctor Who Series 2 DVDs and liked it so well that I had to go out and buy the set myself. I should be mailing theirs back soon... Thanks also to

d_84 for posting the links to the artwork and Doctor Who special on my last entry - I got busy and couldn't respond right away, then figured it was too late.

Anyway, now I'm happily counting down to the premiere of Doctor Who Series 4 on the Sci-Fi Channel this Friday (8:30 pm). In honor of this, I thought I'd post a different trailer for the series each day until Friday. (This plan was born out of my realization that there are 4 days until the premiere and I found 4 trailers on YouTube. :-D )

It's obvious there's some real trouble with council members all not respecting each other before, from the tenor of the interaction. Sad. It really was Springeresque. But, in all fairness to Jerry Springer, people go there looking for a fight. You expect it there. City Council is another story.

But I should also say, I've seen similar interactions on my own board. Thank goodness things are better now.

Wow - that was quite a spectacle, and that's pretty bad! People shouldn't talk over anyone during a meeting like that. But really, that could happen anywhere. Our local school board as well as the County Commission in Chattanooga are both well-known for personal drama.

Yep. Although this is the one that made it to YouTube, I doubt that behavior is much out of the ordinary. Yesterday, I heard that the Detroit City Council refused to hear the mayor's budget speech. I can kind of understand that - he's been indicted for perjury, cost the City of Detroit $8-9 million to cover up an affair, and refused to resign. On the other hand, while he's the mayor, city business must go on...

Fear not!
The City Council in Birmingham Alabama will soon make those in Detroit look like rocket scientists.
They are working on it. Trust me.
